What led you to your current role at Zappos? I started at Zappos as an intern (fresh out of college) for the team I'm currently on (Brand Partnerships/Outreach Marketing). Throughout my summer internship I was able to learn so much about what my team does and help out in a lot of different areas. My team definitely put me to work and gave me a lot of responsibility. This allowed me to easily transition onto the team at the end of the summer! I now manage marketing for ~150 Fashion Footwear and Handbag brands which has been absolutely amazing. I will be celebrating my one year anniversary at Zappos this June and am so thankful for all that I have learned in such a short time!
What makes Zappos a great place to work? I have been able to experience and do so much more while working at Zappos than I would be able to at any other company. I am so thankful that even so early in my career my team has so much faith in me and really pushes me to exceed my own expectations. Beyond that, I have been able to make the best friends here and go to so many fun "work" events. I can honestly say I have never woken up dreading going to work (unless I stayed at a happy hour too late ;) )

What is a typical day like for you at Zappos? A typical day for me at Zappos varies constantly which is one of the best parts about my job. We could be traveling, working at a footwear or clothing market, meeting with a brand, building/adjusting/executing on our monthly marketing initiatives, working with the buyers, or team building! The way Brand Partnerships is broken out we have plenty of freedom to manage our portfolios as necessary to ensure the success of our brands and Zappos. Everyday provides a new challenge and new opportunity!
What is your favorite part about your job? My favorite part about my job is twofold: the people and the work. I look forward to going to work because I work with so many amazing people at Zappos! I've made friends for life here that make everyday a true joy. I love my job because of how cross-functional the work is. Since we manage marketing relationships between the brands and Zappos. I have the chance to work cross functionally with almost every department from: Email, Content, Merchandising, Social, Legal, Accounting, Creative and so many more. It has allowed me to gain a great understand of so many elements that make our business run. Not to mention we have some of the best brands that are unbelievably great partners to us!

Why did you choose Zappos? The first time I visited Zappos, I knew it was a super special place. I immediately fell in love with the culture and the people who made Zappos, Zappos. I knew it was a place I could see myself growing as a professional and a human without having to compensate for any part of myself.
Other than Zappos, what's one mobile app you can't live without? I just came across this app recently that I literally can't live without. Like literally. it's called (Not)Recipes and is the saving grace to people who don't cook, like myself. It's essentially like Instagram but strictly food with the ingredients and prepping/cooking instructions. Most often beautiful photography of delicious looking food and how to make those foods!!! Yum!

What advice would you give to someone applying to a job in your department? REALLY do your research about Zappos and our culture. We are not your typical company and that's part of what makes us great. But it's not for everyone. if you really put in the effort to learn more about our culture and what your role would be like, if hired, you will know if this is the place for you. Before I applied to Zappos I felt such a strong connection because the values of the organization are so closely in line with my own. The passion I developed for the company through research came through as determination in my interviews (Core value #9 be passionate and determined!). This place will be like a second home and your coworkers will be your family. Do your due diligence to make sure this is the right place for you.
What are some of the challenges you enjoy most? One of the challenges I enjoy most is bringing my entire self to work. At first I found it very difficult to fully be me at work. Coming from a more strict work environment it was a process to remove the superficial layers and really be myself. At the end of the day, this is still a work place so a level of professionalism is required, but I have found so much happiness in opening up to find the balance in myself. Another challenge I really enjoy is the mission of self-management. Being able to manage myself and my work is exciting/rewarding but it's also a huge responsibility and requires tons of discipline. I am grateful to have such an approachable, understanding mentor and an awesome team to help support me in my progress.

What do you think it takes to be successful at Zappos? Openness is so important to be successful here. Many of the people I know at the office have been in several different roles during their time here. And there are a lot of things that go on at Zappos that you won't find at other companies.

What's one interesting fact about Zappos that people might not know? One of the reasons we moved to Vegas. Early on, Zappos decided that customer service would be the key to the company's success. Great customer service meant having a 24/7 phone line, so we needed a 24/7 city.

Describe the relationships you've built with your co-workers. We go to lunch together every day, I go to them for help on my projects, and I hang out with them on the weekends. I'm genuinely good friends with many of them outside of work.

Why should I become a Zappos Insider? | Being an Insider gives you access to learn more about Zappos, internships, and when the application windows open up. |
I'm sold! I've become an Insider… Now what? | Awesome! Thanks for becoming an Insider. Once the application window opens up, you'll need to apply for the internship of your dreams from the listings above to be considered. After you apply, please keep a look out (check your spam/junk folder) for an email containing the next steps. |
Do I still have to apply even though I am already an Insider? | Great question! Yes, you must apply during the application window to be considered for one of our internship positions. |
After submitting an application, how long should one expect to hear back? | While we wish we could be as fast as Superman when it comes to this, we advise applicants that it will take a few weeks. |
I missed the application deadline, what happens now? | Unfortunately, if you miss the deadline, you will have to wait until the next window to apply and make sure that you meet the internship requirements. |
So if I'm still in high school, currently pursuing an Associate's Degree, or graduated, can I apply? | Please refer to the description of the internship you're applying for to see the requirements of that position. |
What if I'm an international student. Can I apply? | Yes, of course! Based on the position and as long as you meet the eligibility requirements. International students are definitely hire-able as interns under the F-1 Visa with the necessary paperwork to work in the United States. You must be attending an accredited university located in the U.S. |
What kind of internships do you offer? | We offer internships in various departments across the company. |
Do I have to do a video cover letter? | That is completely up to you! A video cover letter allows us to see your personality, which is why we love them as much as animals, rainbows, and food. Once you apply please make sure to upload the video to a streaming video website (ex: YouTube, Vimeo) and email the link to [email protected]. We would love if the video was less than 2 minutes in length. Again, a video cover letter is NOT required to apply. |
Will I be converted to a full-time employee after my internship? | We have been able to convert many of our past interns into full-time hires. However, we are unable to guarantee a full-time position after the internship. |
What would I be doing if I were an intern? | You'll put your passion to work and build a strong, well-rounded skill set that will catalyze your career (it could make you funnier and better looking, but no promises). Zappos interns work within our teams to drive projects and make a meaningful impact on the company, while building a positive team and family spirit through professional and social events. No coffee runs for our interns! Prepare to make meaningful connections with Zappos team members and memories that will last a lifetime. |
Do I receive compensation for being an intern? | Yes! I hope you like getting paid in Twinkies! (Just kidding! We promise we pay you in real money.) |
But do I receive benefits? | While we wish we could give all the benefits to Zappos interns, only full-time employees are able to receive benefits. You do get the 40% discount, though! |
I don't live in Las Vegas, so do I get anything in terms of housing and/or relocation? | Yup! We do offer housing and relocation assistance |
Should I bring a car? | It is not required that you bring your car. But to be able to explore our great city and enjoy weekend road trips, it's highly recommended to bring your sweet ride! |
What's in Downtown Las Vegas? | Downtown Las Vegas is where Zapponians work, live, and play. You'll find local cafes and shops, the hippest bars, the best places to eat, an adult playground, a doggy park, a thriving entrepreneurship and tech scene, and a focus on arts, music, and culture. But the best thing you will find is a sense of community. For more information, please visit: http://downtown.vegas/ |
What else is in Las Vegas? | Besides playing tourist and sightseeing on the strip, there are top-notch restaurants, clubs, grand entertainment shows that you won't be able to watch anywhere, malls and outlets galore, and recreational activities and areas (like Red Rock and Mount Charleston) to keep yourself active. And if you're into road trips, Los Angeles is about 4 hours away and Zion National Park in Utah is about 3 hours away. |
Can I play in the ball pit? | You totally can! |
